1803-41-51 Danish - Norwegian Jager Rifle (891)
The Norwegians and Danes had many older pattern arms which they modified instead of making complete new weapons. These started out as the 1803 Flintlock Jager Rifle and were converted to percussion in 1841 and in 1851. Many were converted to piller (or “tige”) breech, rerifled and new sights were fitted. It had a 28 3/4" barrel which was originally in .64 caliber, but most were reamed to .72 caliber. Early locks have a slight pointed tail, later production locks are round tail. Bullet molds were designed with screwdriver ends and were fitted inside patch box. Norwegians used the dog catch on locks very late. The “Tige” breeches were a major improvement in their time. You rammed the ball hard against it to expand it to fit the rifling.
