Early 1600's Flintlock Pistol (626)
This pistol from the Pierre Cayla Collection, with this style lock was used mainly by the Dutch, there were also many sold to and used by both sides during the English Civil Wars. It is a typical early military style pistol. Many of these locks have been found in the Seneca Indian Village sites in upper New York. It is a very well balanced, lightweight pistol. The barrel is 14 1/2", octagon to round, in .54 caliber. The lock plate measures 6" x 1 3/4". The throw of the cock is 1 5/8".
