1756 Royal Artillery Carbine (711)
This carbine is very similar to the Horseman Carbine except it is fitted with sling swivels, and the stock is cut back for a bayonet, it has no side sling bar. The barrel is now tapered and lighter in weight. The very first ones made had wooden rammers, but most were altered for steel ramrods by putting a bushing in the front thimble and a spring in the rear thimble. In 1776 the new carbines were made just for steel rammers using either the composite front thimble or the long plain front thimble. In 1777 the new pattern lock was adopted with the plain front thimble. Barrel is 37" tapered round, in .62 or .66 caliber. The lock plate measures 6" x 1 1/16". The throw of the cock is 1 3/4".
