Marine & Militia Musket (729)
In 1757, the Ordnance Department came up with this simplified musket to arm all new Marine & Militia recruits brought by the passage of the Militia Act of 1757. It was basically a trimmed down 1755 with a wooden ramrod, no thumb piece, no rear thimble and no nose cap. The butt plate finial was also changed, held in place with a screw instead of a pin. These guns were not required to be fine finished or polished. Barrels were 42", side plates were flat mounted flush in the stock. In 1759 this version was changed to except a steel rammer with 1756 pattern thimbles an adding a nose cap.
