This musket is from James II reign of 1685 to 1688. Nice early lateral sear flintlock marked “James II”. Early double step barrel in .77 caliber 46" in length. Unique stock styling with the very early stepped lock mouldings. The unusual lock on this musket must have been common at the time. We have noticed this same style lock on some Scottish muskets and 1680’s Norwegian Muskets. The original gun had an ash stock which along with beechwood were very common gunstock woods at the time.
