1763-66 French Infantry Musket (702)
In 1766, the French thought the new design of their musket was too heavy so they lightened it. They made it more slender in the butt and wrist areas and used a smaller lock, renaming it the 1766 which is basically what the U.S. copied for our 1795. The cock on the 1766 has a heart shaped hole in the neck. Most of the early 1766 muskets only have two band springs. We have reproduced all the parts including stock and barrel patterns. The 1766 musket still has a 44 3/4" round barrel but is slightly lighter than the 1763. The size of the locks on the 1766 muskets were reduced down to 6 1/4" x 1 3/16". The throw of the cock is 1 3/4".
