1763 French Infantry Musket (765)

In 1762, the French started creating a new model arm that was shorter and stronger built than the existing muskets. The lock is the same size as the earlier models but with a new double throated cock and does not have the slashstep down cuts on the tail. The cock on the 1763 also has a round hole in the neck. The barrel is full round and is heavier. The stock has a much larger wrist and straighter butt stock design. This musket weighed just over ten pounds. The front band on this musket has a ramrod spring that reaches all the way into the middle band. This musket still only has two band springs. The ramrods were still button headed until 1774. It has a 44 3/4" round barrel, available in .69 or .72 caliber. The lock plate measures 6 3/4" x 1 1/4". The throw of the cock is 2".
