1763 French Cavalry Musketoon (737)
The French also redesigned the Cavalry weapons in 1763. By using bands instead of pins to hold the barrel and forearm together they increase the strength considerably. The stock and all parts including the lock are much smaller than the muskets. The cavalry versions were all brass mounted except for a small quantity made during the French Revolution and the French Highway Police version that was made to take a small bayonet. It has a 31" round barrel, available in .62 or .66 caliber. The lock plate measures 5 5/8" x 1 1/16". In 1770-71 the new lock was introduced with no other changes.
