In 1696, there was a contract for five hunting muskets for Indian Chief’s which specified flat locks, which is unusual at this time because all contracts until 1714 specified rounded locks. This is believed to be one of those. The lock is marked “Pauphille A Tulle” which is Michel Paufile (d 1698). We have reproduced this lock as is, with medium pitting for mainly restoration work. The lock plate measures 6 1/8" x 1 1/8". The throw of the cock is 1 3/8".
