The French marines came up with a new pistol in the year 1779 with a 7 3/8" barrel and full back strap around the stock. The front band acts as a brace locking the barrel to the trigger guard. There are two versions of this pistol the first type uses the stepped blunt ended lock plate with either an L shaped frizzen spring or conventional type V-spring. This is the later 2nd type which uses the pointed tail 77 type lock. All Marine pistols were made at “Tulle”.
