1810 & 1835 Neue Korps-Jeagerbuchse (648)
In the early 1800’s, Germany was also trying to standardize their rifles. The 1810, was the first official standard rifle and it was a combination of the best features of all previous rifles. The caliber was dropped down to .58 and they went with a 28 1/2" tapered and flared barrel for better balance. This was also the only flintlock military rifle of any world power to adopt set triggers. The 1810, was the first German rifle manufactured with a bayonet. The Germans took extra care in the manufacture of their rifles and the workmanship in these locks and triggers show this. In 1835, the Germans converted most of these rifles to percussion and adopted the nipple safety, which is an arm that snaps over the nipple to prevent the hammer from contact with the nipple. This is from the J.R. Williams Collection. The lock plate measures 5 1/4" x 1 1/16". The throw of the cock is 1 5/8".
