1801 Infanteriegewehr (Nothardt-Gewehr) (881)
The Prussians needed a lighter weight fast handling weapon for their light infantry troops and came out with this new pattern, with a smaller .59 caliber 41 1/2" barrel. The hardware and lock on this weapon are smaller than the standard infantry musket. Overall this musket was of much slimmer lines and extra care was taken in boring and finishing the bores even though they were smoothbores. There is a special humped rear sight fitted to the tang. Note the long 3rd thimble and side plate. This weapon also has a cheek piece similar to the musket.
