This bayonet is very similar to the 1717 French Bayonet, but the blade is now fluted on all three sides. There is no shield around the shank, where it meets the socket on this model. This was the standard bayonet from 1728 to 1754 with minor modifications. In 1750, there were two file marks added to resemble a v-shaped shield on the socket. The 1754 bayonet is exactly the same as the 1728 except that it now has the third notch cut in it to form the z-slot for the barrel lug stud. The over all length of this bayonet is 18".
